Parents and Students:

Enclosed you will find the calendar for the year.  Please try to make arrangements for your student(s) to be at all rehearsals, competitions, and football games.

The band will be having two evening rehearsals.  They will be from 6:00 p.m-8:30 p.m.  The first will be on Monday, September 24; the second will be on Tuesday, October 9.  Mark your calendars.

Football season begins Friday with an away game against Riesel.  Students need to be in the band hall at 5:30 p.m.  Students need to eat before the game to ensure that they are not late returning from their 3rd quarter break.  This will result in a lower grade and no more 3rd quarters off.

We will be competing in three marching competitions.  The first will be on Saturday, October 6, at the Central Texas Marching Championships in Killeen.  We will be performing in the early morning.  The second will be the Troy Marching Invitational.  This is during the school day on either October 3 or 10.  Finally, we compete in the University Interscholastic League’s Marching Contest on Tuesday, October 16.  This will also be during the school day.  Should the band receive a Division I at UIL, they will qualify for Area Contest on Saturday, October 27.

This year students will need to purchase a band t-shirt for $15.00.  We will be using this shirt as “the” band shirt for the next few years.  The band has a limited supply of leftover cap and visors that we will sell for $5.00.  These can be used during class when we are outside most days.

Students were given a band handbook that we went over during class.  It is on the Internet as well.  If you need a hard copy, call the band hall and I will send you one.  It needs to be signed and returned acknowledging that you have read it.  I have enclosed the paperwork that needs to be signed and returned.

The band is doing a great job of getting the year started.  It is extremely hot, but they are giving me 110%.  Please encourage them to keep doing their best and to practice in order to keep improving.  Thanks for your help and support.  If there are any questions or concerns, please call 657-0111.

                                      Sincerely,

                                      Elizabeth Kriczky

There are many opportunities for our band students to participate in competitions.  The middle school All-District competition is being held in Killeen on Saturday, November 18, 2000.  Students have already signed-up for this competition and should be practicing the assigned music.  The ATSSB All-Region competition is December 9th for middle school students, and December 10th for high school students.  This competition will be held in Groesbeck this year.  Students wanting to compete in All-Region should sign up by November 3, 2000.

The annual December concert will be held in the new gym on Thursday, December 14, 2000, at 7:00 p.m.

The band is doing a great job of getting the year going.  Each student should continue to work and be proud of his/her effort.  Be sure to tell your band student that they are doing a fantastic job.  Also, be sure to encourage daily practice in order to keep improving.  Thanks for your help and support.

                                      Sincerely,

                                      Elizabeth Kriczky

Parents and Students:

The year is winding down, but the band has a few activities to complete.  The band did well at both the McGregor Invitational Contest and UIL Contest.  At McGregor, we earned a Division I in both concert and sight reading contest.  At UIL, we earned a Division II in concert and a Division I in sight reading.

We are having our band trip this Friday, May 6.  We will go to Temple West Park.  The band will have a donation car wash at Guy’s this Saturday, May 7, from 10a.m.-2p.m.  Our spring concert is Thursday, May 12.  We are serving a spaghetti supper from 5-7p.m.  H.S. students are responsible for bringing one bag of spaghetti for the supper.  Please call and sign up to help with the supper.  Our final activity is graduation on May 27.

We appreciate all the help you have given.  We are still selling cd’s of the spring concert for $16.00.  We are trying to earn enough money to offer a summer band camp to all Holland band students.  We are trying to hire some of America’s finest marching instructors.  Thanks for your time and support.

                                                          Sincerely,

                                                          Elizabeth Kriczky
