Dear High School Students,

It is time to start up with our Global Issues Class for the 2007-2008 school year.  This year we will be traveling to Washington, D.C. on May 22-May 26, 2008.  All students in grades nine through twelve are eligible to participate in this class.  Classes will meet at 7:00am on Friday mornings beginning on October 5, 2007.  Students will be expected to attend 90% of the classes and participate in the assigned activities.   The first meeting will be an informational exchange about possible fund raisers and expectations for the class.

The program will delve into the richness of the history of Washington, D.C. and the governmental issues of today.  Students will need to raise $1000 towards the cost of the trip.  Some organized fund raisers will be available for students to participate.  However, students will be required to fund the majority of the trip on their own.  This means, if you really want to travel with the group, you will need to be self-motivated to earn your funds.  Examples of self-motivation include car washes and bake sales.  Students are to turn their trip money into Mrs. Cearley as they accumulate it and it will be deposited in each student’s account.  Money raised through group fund raisers such as candy or pizza sales will not be returned to the student if they withdraw from the class.  Money deposited from personal fund raisers will be returned if a student withdraws from the class before airline tickets are purchased.  After that point, the student withdrawing from the program will be required to pay any expenses incurred.

We will have a parent meeting at 6pm in the Elementary Commons Area on October 8, 2007 to discuss the class and the trip. A non-refundable $40.00 deposit for the airline ticket is due by October 26, 2007. Students should have at least $300 in her/his account by December 20, 2007.  If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Gunn at 657-0175.

Sincerely,

Cindy Gunn
