SHAC Meeting Minutes Monday September 14, 2009 6pm

Holland Middle School Computer Lab

Cindy Gunn called the meeting to order at 6:00pm.

Members Present: Cindy Gunn- Superintendant, Melanie Cearley –Assistant Principal, Christi Carlson –school nurse, Melinda Kurtz –community member, Randy Evans –community member

Members Absent: Gary Ramthun- Athletic Director, Sally Decker –PE Coach, Connie Knaus –Cafeteria Manager, Kim Arnold- Clinic Aide, Jennifer Miller –community member, Mike Cearley –community member

Goals and Objectives were discussed as well as the vision statement for SHAC:

Our children will develop healthy life styles and avoid risky behavior. Our families will provide a nurturing environment while being involved in all aspects of their children’s life. Our schools will provide a safe, stimulating atmosphere to enhance development of well-rounded individuals. Our community will partner with schools and businesses to offer a strong support system to benefit all members of the community.

Current Business:

Students: Healthy & Wise Curriculum, Fitness Gram, up to date immunizations on all students enrolled, S&W Flu vaccines, Mobile Dentist

Community: Clinic continues one day a week- Thursday mornings at 9. Immunizations always available, as well as strep screenings.

Staff: Afterschool Step Aerobics

New Business:

Students: begin tips of the week announcements to strengthen knowledge about nutrition and exercise to ward off obesity.

Community: explore fund raising opportunities to perhaps provide exercise equipment that could be available to the community.

Staff: make sure each class room has hand sanitizer. Also, ensure heavy traffic areas and community property is cleaned on a regular basis. ex: keyboards in computer labs, cafeteria chairs, art room supplies

Officers were elected and the results are:

President- Christi Carlson

Vice President- Melinda Kurtz

Secretary- Kim Arnold

We discussed meeting times- our goal is to meet at least 4 times this school year.

Next meeting set for the 3^rd Monday in December- December 15^th, 2009 at 6pm in Middle School Computer Lab.

Meetings are open to all interested community members.
